Ruby is pink to blood-red colored gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum. The red color is caused mainly by the presence of the element chromium. Its name comes from ruber, Latin for red. The ruby is considered one of the four precious stones, together with the sapphire, the emerald, and the diamond.
Historically the ruby was symbolized as power, vitality, and clarity of the heart, named "the king of gemstones". It was believed that soldiers wearing rubies will get courage and protection in battle. The ruby was also believed having the healing function, keeping off danger, evil, and even bad dreams.
